Chicken

Geez! Is this CREEPY or what?

It looks like Sly Stone

And the Grinch went into the chicken business together.

Thank you ................but NO THANKS!

This sign creeps me out every time we drive by the place.

Jacksonville Orchid Society

I've waited for this day for a long time.

It was the Jacksonville Orchid Society Show and Sale.

So many pretty orchids.

SOOOO many people.

It was a lot of orchids and a LOT of people in a very small space.

But, it was worth it.

Dendrobium 'Twinkle'
This little lovely came home with me.

I've been searching for this orchid for years.

And now it is mine, ALL MINE!

Happy St. Patricks Day

Steve and I did what everyone does on St. Patrick's Day.

We ate MEXICAN!

I think the guy in the middle
is IRISH!

Stocking Up

Isn't this Little Free Library adorable.

I ♥ how it matches the big house.

This one is on St. Johns Avenue in the Avondale section of Jacksonville
and today it was stuffed full of good reading.

I dropped off two books
and I FOUND two books that looked interesting.

Hopefully, someone will like the books I left.

City of Murals

Jacksonville, like many cities, has embraced the mural.

This one is near the library's main branch .

Looks like the gentleman has some busy hours of reading ahead of him.

Remember .....they are due back in 3 weeks!

Lifted Up

The Main Street Bridge (a.k.a. The Blue Bridge)
is the iconic symbol of Jacksonville.

Instead of being a traditional drawbridge,
it is a LIFT bridge.

I got to see it in action.

Starting to go up.

Fully lifted to let the tug go under.

The week after we moved here a cruise ship misjudged the channel
and got wedged under this bridge.

As you can imagine it was the headline story on the evening news for days,
and I'm sure the poor captain was mighty embarrassed.

Well Trained

I grew up in a town where there were trains.
There were lots and lots of trains.

In Orlando we couldn't hear the train from our house.
I missed it.

Now, I can hear the train again.
Lots and lots of trains.

The trains get travel over this very cool bridge
to get from the north bank of the St. Johns River over to the south side.

When we were biking the other day, there was a train stopped on the bridge.
FEC Strauss Trunion Bascule Bridge

It made my day.

Love ♥ Locks

Many cities have Love Lock bridges.

We have one too.

Cairns

In mid-October Hurricane Matthew hit the east coast of Florida.
Where we lived (in Orlando), it wasn't too bad.

But, a little further east and north, it really battered the shore.
Parts of A1A (the coastal highway) were washed out near Flagler Beach.

We drove that way today for the first time.
What used to be the southbound lane of A1A is now the northbound.

And a new lane has been paved to the west.

The road is pretty good, but you can definitely see where the sea
washed the road and underbase completely away.

The state has been building with rock and sand,
leaving the artistic among us to do
THIS....

I'm not sure how many there were in total.
I'm guessing around 50 or so.

Now that's making the best of a bad situation.

The Great House Hunt of 2017 (Day Three)

Today's search brings us to Fernandina Beach.

It has THIS going for it.

There were also three HOUSES to check out.

Two didn't make the initial cut.
One was WAY, WAY out of town and the other wasn't even built yet.

The third one made the street view cut.
We just needed to get inside to take a better look.
Very small, but right location and really cute.

Apparently we aren't the only ones to think so.
When we spoke to the realtor, they accepted an offer.....
just before we called.

Before heading off to supper,
we stopped by to have a chat with David.

He was checking out dinner options.

And, doing a bit of knitting.
Dude is the S-L-O-W-E-S-T knitter ever.
Not much of a conversationalist either.
What happened next made us think twice about whether we really *should*
move to Amelia Island.

Apparently the island is rift with ....
...pickpockets.
